STOP THE PRESS! - The Dexter Queen has received recognition for the quality of its cuisine.

Leon and Gwen McGarrity opened the Dexter Queen in 1949. Initially called the Daisy Queen, it soon became a local favorite known for ice cream, hamburgers, and barbecue sandwiches. Leon named his most popular sandwich, the “Pig”, made of sliced barbecued pork topped with slaw and his secret mustard sauce.

Bob and Lori Thrower purchased the Dexter Queen in December 2007, becoming the fourth owners in its 59 years of existence. Today, the restaurant routinely serves lunch and dinner to over 2,000 people a week. The Dexter Queen has seating for up to 60 people and uses a state of the art smoker capable of barbecuing over 500 pounds of pork shoulder at a time.

The customer base has continued to grow, but the recipes remain the same. The Dexter Queen still serves hickory smoked sliced pork shoulder on the “Pig” sandwich and if you have a really big appetite, you can order the really big “Lotta Pig” sandwich. All of these sandwiches come with your choice of sauce, including the Dexter Queen favorite, Leon’s original secret recipe. And, hey, do you want fries with that?
